Josie Burri joined Shipley in 2017 as Director of Development. She was previously Vice President for Advancement at The University of the Arts. Born in Tennessee and raised in Georgia and South Carolina, Josie moved to Philadelphia to attend university—graduating from Temple University with a bachelor of music in flute performance and Drexel University with a master of science in arts administration. She now lives in Lower Merion with her husband and young daughter. When she is not at school, she enjoys spending time with her family, playing the flute, and volunteering for various nonprofit organizations.

Arriving at Shipley in 1993, Karen Brown is the longest-serving member of the Development Office. Karen has served in multiple roles during her tenure at Shipley, working with both alumni and parents, supporting fundraising events as well as annual, capital, and planned gift efforts, and being a knowledgeable resource for her colleagues. Karen’s two children, Carolyn ’07 and Dan ’10, were “lifers” at Shipley, and in 2012 Karen was named an Honorary Alumna herself. She is a graduate of Chestnut Hill College. Karen joined the Centennial Society in 2011.
